Suprise, Suprise….advertising dollars in an unusual place!

So, the economy sucks, business’s are trimming the fat, laying off employees, car dealers can’t deal because no one wants car payments, banks are not loaning money, houses are not selling and if you own a home it’s value has gone down due to all of the above. And if you are looking for a job-well, that pretty much sucks too.

How about the guy who was looking for a job,he had not found one for about three or four years. He was finely hired by a national chain of stores and was told to report to work the following day, but was called an hour before he was to report for work and told not to come in because corporate-heads halted all new hires! Such a professional touch aye. Talk about corporate professionalism. Better off not working for those jerks!

Then I found this interesting story that puts a smile on my face. In spite of the number of radio stations and newspapers going out of business there is a cable access channel doing local programming and even have a evening news hour. They have as much professional production and presentation as your regular local station and has a rate card ranging from $150 to $900 a month for one to four, 30 second placements per month.

So, what I’m getting at is, if a local cable access channel can keep the local advertisers happy with professionally produced advertising in their evening newscasts and other programs, here is a perfect match for those starting a Voice Over career to team up with and get paid for your work and build your roster of clients as well as business experience and honing your craft.

This I believe is an overlooked VO source that should be tapped into.

ADDING A HYBRID TO YOUR VOICE OVER STUDIO CAN BRING EXTRA INCOME.

I recall in my early years of broadcasting hearing a guy doing celebrity pre-taped interviews (somebody in Hollywood) Jimmy Fiddler I think was his name. They were very timely and carried a huge following. Businesses were lined up to sponsor the features. I think this would be a good project for Voice Over Artist as an extra revenue in todays economy. And the capitol outlay for adding a feature to your studio is very economical.

I researched the purchase of a Hybrid and found the JK Audio Host One at $439.00 at BSWUSA.com/ with free shipping. For those of you that are unfamiliar with a hybrid and how it works, here is an example. The hybrid is placed between an incoming telephone line and the receiver of the telephone and your mixer. Then back to the out-going side of the telephone so the party at the other end can hear the person conducting the interview through a studio microphone. The hybrid or your mixer then has a mix-minus feature that prevents any feed back and controls the gain on the out-going line. You can also pan left the microphone and pan right the incoming voice from the telephone to give separation on the left and right studio monitors.

Now the next issue is to get out and hustle up a few dedicated sponsors to pay for your packaged features and offer its distribution to radio stations or web sites that would like to buy the features.

In today’s economy we have seen thousands of workers in every profession getting pink slips and widening the unemployment numbers. Broadcasting is no different. Most major broadcasting groups are letting talent go and down sizing their operations. Even broadcasting schools are closing up due to students unable to secure educational loans.

This is a great way to get your name out and they will remember you for your efforts and are prime for a followup phone call. We even offer to come out to their place of business and get the owner or store manager to voice part or all of their next promotion. It’s all about finding the next income stream in a not so certain economy.
